Everyone Deserves Music with Scott as been airing each weekend since January 2013 on Indigo FM. It’s a 2 hour show devoted to indie folk and roots genres from both Australia and overseas. Scott shares 3 of his highlight Australian tracks from 2010 -2020.
Liz Stringer – High Open Hills (Released 2012)
I reckon the mark of a great songwriter is when they can embody the character within a song to the point where you’d swear they were writing about their own heartbreak experience. Stringer achieves that on High Open Hills – a standout track from her excellent 2012 album Warm In The Darkness. This Balcony TV video from 2013 is pretty good – a tad too close up for my liking – but otherwise captures the story and sound perfectly.
Gang of Youths – Fear And Trembling (Released 2017)
Probably my favourite song of all time is Jungleland by Springsteen from his epic 1975 Born To Run album and GOY’s Fear And Trembling bears an uncanny resemblance in terms of it’s mumbled vocal intro that explodes into a pure rock n roll adrenalin rush. This live clip from Austin City Limits in 2018 is pretty decent.
Fraser A Gorman – The World Sure Looks Dark (Through These Sunglasses) (Released 2018)
The underrated Fraser A Gorman is one of my favourite singer-songwriters. His songs are just brilliantly composed and executed, they’re catchy and lyrically on point. I could have picked a number of songs from his excellent Easy Dazy album of 2018 such as St Joe’s Street or Walking To Oman’s but the chorus punchline of “Shivers don’t feel right, Shivers don’t run my spine no more, I’m dying for it but it’s alright, I don’t need your opinions out on my door” gave The World Sure Looks Dark the nod.
