Indigo FM Presents ace guitarist singer songwriter Daniel Champagne who will grace the stage again at Yackandandah Public Hall on Saturday 4 May.

“We are honoured to have the opportunity to host a date on Daniel Champagne’s 2019 Australian tour promoting his Satellite City EP. Last year’s concert was a simply breathtaking performance and we are very excited that Daniel will take to the stage at Yackandandah Public Hall on Saturday 4 May,” said Indigo FM President Scott Landells.

“Daniel has especially written a tune for us too – one of the 3 tracks on his Satellite City EP is titled “Indigo” – a 2 minute instrumental that Champagne described thus “I named an instrumental piece ‘Indigo’ after the word jumped out at me driving to town for my 2018 show”.

“Champagne is based in Nashville Tennessee, and securing his agreement to again include Yackandandah on his National tour was a case of him approaching us which says a lot about the enthusiastic reception he received in Yackandandah last year as well as support from the Yackandandah Folk Festival early on in his touring career,” Landells said.

Doors open from 6:30pm, Music from 7:30pm.

Tickets are $20 pre-sale (aged 15 and over, children under 15 are free) and can be booked on-line from the link below.

ABOUT DANIEL CHAMPAGNE

One reviewer recently wrote – ‘Daniel Champagne exudes a natural ease on stage, as he sings poignant lyrics and beautifully crafted melodies that invariably whisk the heart up with grand romanticism. Coupled with an exhilarating guitar talent that transcends mere acoustic playing to replicate a whole band, Champagne is just magical’ (themusic.com.au)

The story goes that the young Australian singer, songwriter and one-of-a-kind guitar virtuoso first picked up his instrument of choice as a five-year-old following in the footsteps of a musical father. He began writing songs at 12, training classically throughout his teens and performing solo wherever he could, honing his craft and developing what would become the dynamite live show that he is renowned for today.

At 18 he left school, turned professional and hit the road. The next five years saw him traversing North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, New Zealand and of course, his homeland Australia playing such festivals as Vancouver and Mariposa Folk (Canada), Belgium’s Labadoux Festival and Australia’s Woodford, Falls Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival and the legendary Byron Bay Bluesfest.

As well as touring and sharing stages with the likes of Lucinda Williams, Judy Collins, INXS, John Butler, KT Tunstall and Ani DiFranco, Jake Shimabukuro, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Tommy Emmanuel, Albert Lee and Kaki King – all of this while writing, producing and independently releasing two Eps,  Gypsy Moon Volumes 1 and 2,  his first long player ‘Pint of Mystery’ (2011)  ‘My Own Design’ (2009) and ‘Wide Eyed and Open’ (2010), and the ‘Real Live’ offering in 2012.

His latest full length release “Fault Lines” (2017) is available now and his new project, Satellite City EP (2018) is comprised of three singles, Satellite City (out Sept 14), Indigo (out Oct 12), and The Great Divide (out Nov 1).

As one reviewer recently wrote, “still in his early twenties, the distances he has been would be more frequently associated with veterans of the Folk scene” (The Dwarf).

Doug keen to meet the challenge at Beechworth

Indigo FM Beechworth has a new Site Co-ordinator with Doug Wallen stepping into the role in early January.

“I’m honoured to take on the role of Site Co-ordinator for Beechworth. I’ve loved being involved with Indigo FM since moving to the region two years ago, and I look forward to fostering more engagement with the community and welcoming more diverse voices to our local airwaves”, Wallen said.

Each Indigo FM site is co-ordinated by a volunteer Site Co-ordinator whose role is to connect and engage the local community and members / presenters as well as provide an important conduit to the Committee of Management and Sub-Committees.

President Scott Landells is excited with Wallen’s appointment. “Our Committee of Management are rapt that Doug has agreed to take on the role. It can be a challenging role at times, however we’re very confident that with the support of our off-air team and local members that Doug will add to the great work that has been contributed in previous years by the likes of Daniel Goonan and Mark Alcock”, Landells said.

Wallen has been an active contributor to Indigo FM’s Marketing and Events push these past couple of years, since joining as a presenter in early 2017.

As well as the off-air role, Wallen’s popular Waste The Alphabet show – which airs Tuesday nights from 7pm and shines a spotlight on Australian independent pop and rock tunes continues into its third year.

To contact Doug please email [email protected] or call 0488 277 703.

Playlist Launch 13.0 – December 2018 – “Most Diverse to date”

Our latest playlist has launched in recent days at each site. It has 600 songs with 60% Australian content and features music from many of the artists from both upcoming and recent Music Festivals throughout the region as well as a number of live to air performances.

This Playlist will run through the first half of 2019 and is quite likely our most diverse playlist to date. The 600 songs are provided by 550 different musical artists.

Big thanks to all our contributors. On this occasion we had members and presenters from each of our Beechworth, Chiltern, Tangambalanga and Yackandandah sites contribute.

n a few weeks we will record a two hour preview of the playlist to go to air at each site which will be available as a podcast.

88.0 Kiewa-Tangam hits the airwaves

With the opening strains of Simon and Garfunkel’s classic hit Cecilia, 88.0 Indigo FM Kiewa-Tangam was launched Sunday evening 25 November around 7pm.

We’re so excited to announce that the culmination of several months of work behind the scenes from the Indigo FM Committee of Management and local community has us on the airwaves in Kiewa-Tangam on 88.0FM.

88.0 Indigo FM Kiewa-Tangam now joins our sites at Beechworth and Yackandandah as a full-time radio site, open for business. A fourth station at Chiltern is aiming to be on air early in 2019.

Our site is based right next to O’Neill’s Butchers at the Lion’s Den which is managed by the Lions Club of Kiewa-Tangambalanga. Indigo FM wishes to thank Peter Croucher for his efforts to secure this site.

If you’ve ever harboured a secret ambition to have your own radio show, well we want to talk to you about making that happen. We would love for you to become a regular presenter on 88.0 Indigo FM Kiewa-Tangam. Your show might be about music that you love – or films, IT, cars, gardening, sport etc. Talk to us about your passion and we will train you up to make it a reality.

Membership of Indigo FM ranges from $14 if you’re a student or pensioner/concession to $80 per annum for a business. That will get you two 30 second recorded announcements per day on our airwaves indicating your support of Indigo FM. Full Membership details are available here.

We’re also keen to take on volunteers who wish to support Indigo FM in a range of behind the scenes roles.

For all enquiries please email us on [email protected] or call Greg on 0448 110 212.

88.0 Indigo FM Kiewa-Tangam will be on air 24 hours a day, 7 days per week and plays a unique mix of music interspersed with announcements for local businesses and events. Musically we are very proud of the fact that our sites embrace diversity and play a minimum 50% Australian content, including a focus on current, independent Australian artists, many of whom are either based locally or have toured through the Indigo Shire playing at local festivals, pubs, wineries, cafes, halls etc. We mix this in with some familiar tunes and then change our playlist every 6 months to keep things sounding fresh.

Our licence category is a essentially a narrowcast licence which means low power and a very local transmission – approx 5km radius from the studio site. For this reason we are technically classed as “local radio” – as distinct from community radio.

This site is a true partnership between the Lions Club (for the site), Indigo Shire Council (whose recent Community Grant has enabled the purchase of equipment), Indigo FM members (whose funds allowed the investment of a licence purchase) and your community (who have been very generous to date with the donation of many pieces of equipment and furniture).

Tune in now!

Experience and new blood to lead Indigo FM in 2018-19

Indigo FM will be led by an experienced team for the next 12 months whilst also embracing the opportunity to add new blood.

Last night’s 2018 AGM was held at the very beautiful Wooragee Hall whereby the following Committee of Management were elected:

Vice-President – Bernie Jovaras

Each Executive member has considerable experience at this level and collectively boast a deep skill-set in community and business leadership as well as the management of local radio via Indigo FM.

Karen Keegan and Phil Fraser will each serve their first full term on the CoM.

Karen Keegan is a very experienced community lawyer who lives at Osbornes Flat and joined as a presenter at our Yackandandah site a little over a year ago. Karen was co-opted on to the CoM in April 2018 and boasts exceptional skills in community and business leadership as well as a passion for local radio.

Phil Fraser has been a very enthusiastic listener at our Beechworth site for a number of years and has been a member for the past year. He has an extensive music collection of vinyl LPs, CDs and digital as well as an accompanying wealth of knowledge about all genres of music. Phil will bring this genuine passion for music and local radio to Indigo FM and we look forward to his valuable contribution.

Stepping down from the Committee are Ian Gracie, Norm Gay and Denis Ginnivan all due to either business / personal reasons. We thank each for their valued contribution on our CoM and look forward to their ongoing involvement.
